Supplement safety and FDA compliance

These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Everything on this site, including product descriptions, articles, and references to published research, is for general information. It isn't medical advice and isn't a substitute for talking to a healthcare professional who knows your history.

Before you start

Talk to your physician or another qualified provider before adding any supplement, and particularly if you are pregnant or nursing, under 18, taking prescription medication, managing a medical condition, or scheduled for surgery.

Some specifics worth raising with them:

Blood thinners and antiplatelet medication. Several polyphenols, including quercetin, and vitamin E at supplemental doses may affect platelet function or interact with warfarin and similar drugs.

Surgery. Providers commonly ask patients to stop supplements, particularly vitamin E and anything affecting clotting, one to two weeks before a procedure. Ask yours.

Medications metabolized by the liver. Quercetin and other flavonoids can affect the enzymes and transporters that clear certain drugs, which can change how much of a medication reaches your bloodstream. This matters most with narrow-margin drugs such as some immunosuppressants, anticoagulants, and cardiac medications.

Kidney disease. If you have reduced kidney function or a history of kidney stones, discuss any concentrated plant extract with your nephrologist before starting.

Thyroid medication. Take supplements at a different time of day than levothyroxine, as with most things you swallow.

Allergies. Read the full ingredient list on the label. Our products are non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, soy-free, and dairy-free, but if you have a specific plant or fruit allergy, check the ingredients against it.

This isn't a complete list of possible interactions. Bring the actual label to your provider rather than a summary of it.

Using our products

Follow the serving size on the label. More is not better with polyphenols, and higher intakes have not been shown to produce proportionally greater benefit.

Store products in a cool, dark place. Polyphenols degrade with light and heat.

Keep supplements out of reach of children.

Don't use a product past its expiration date, and don't use it if the seal is broken when it arrives.

Adverse reactions

If you experience an adverse reaction, stop taking the product and contact your healthcare provider. If your reaction is severe, seek emergency care.

Then tell us at hello@mayernutrition.com. Include the product, the lot number printed on the package, and what happened. We investigate every report we receive and we are required to report serious adverse events to the FDA. You can also report directly to the FDA through MedWatch at https://www.fda.gov/safety/medwatch.

What we do and don't claim

Supplements in the United States are regulated as food, not drugs. They aren't reviewed or approved by the FDA before they go on sale, and no manufacturer, including us, can legally claim a supplement treats or prevents disease.

What research supports for the compounds we use are associations observed in populations and mechanisms demonstrated in the lab. Individual results vary, and by using our products you accept that you are doing so voluntarily and that we make no guarantee of effectiveness or suitability for your particular health needs.
